Everyone is Made To Move

Mountain Days

If you want to get out hiking for the first time or want a stress free day in the hills, come along on one of my hikes. I can organise a day for you or your group or you can join a scheduled hike. I’m a qualified Mountain Leader (ML) and I’m fully insured. I very often spend time away exploring in my van so I can be found all over the country. There are many areas in the country that are easily accessible but still have that remote feeling that hikers are looking for.

Mountain Days for you

I hike mostly in the East and South East, including The Mournes, Wicklow, The Blackstairs, The Comeraghs and The Galtees. Although I do head west to the Nephins and Connemara on occasion for a change of scenery

Wicklow Mountains: So many walks and hikes from easy to strenuous. Visit Glendalough, The Wicklow Gap, Glenmalure or Lugnaquilla. Hikes can be on obvious paths or across open mountain side. Glendalough has well marked loop walks. Lugnquilla is more of a challenge, due to the lack of obvious features and the tendency to have mist it is often difficult to descend.

Connemara: Connemara has a huge selection of hikes. Diamond Hill is one of the most easily accessed. The Maumturks and the 12 Bens provide a more serious experience. If you get the weather right the colours are spectacular.

The Wild Nephins: One of the most remote areas in Ireland. It contains The Mayo Dark Sky Park and numerous of way marked trails the longest being the 39Km Bangor Newport Trail. Rolling hills, bogs, famine trails, isolated hikers Bothys, The Nephins have lots to explore.

The Mournes: If you want an area full of dramatic ascents but criss crossed with easier trails then The Mournes is the place to be.  Meelmore Lodge is an easy place to meet, with a full cafe, toilets and showers. The National Trust maintains 526 hectares of the Mournes, including over 30km of the Mournes Wall

Night Hikes: Hiking might seem difficult to some, hiking in the dark might seem crazy. See the hills differently, go on a leader lead night hike. Using a head torch is great but try turning it off, get your night vision and give yourself the opportunity to see differently.
