Rock Climbing 4: Learn To Lead Climb

This rock climbing course is best suited to climbers who want to  progress to lead climbing on rock. You must have some experience climbing as a second removing leader placed protection and belaying a lead climber. The course would also suit a pair of strong indoor lead climbers.

The course is structured to allow you to develop the skills and judgement to become a competent and safe lead climber. By taking the course there is no guarantee that you will actually be allowed to lead climb. Every effort will be made to equip you with the fundamental skills and judgement to begin to lead climb. On the course you will learn to place gear and evaluate its quality, build anchors, read climbs and develop climbing tactics. The course will also cover assessing hazards.

The course will progress the climbers towards becoming independent lead climbers. Each climbing team will have the opportunity to do a mock lead, placing gear, building an anchor and belaying a second up a climb. You’ll be advised on how to progress your climbing to get to the point where you can lead climb on a climb that is well within your comfort zone.

This course can be adapted to your needs and skill set. Prices depend on the number of people attending. Smaller ratios are better for the client. Get in touch to discuss your plans.

There is no need to register with Mountaineering Ireland for this course so there is no MI Registration fee.
