Rock Skills Introduction
Official Mountaineering Ireland Climbing Course
This Rock Skills Introduction course takes one day and is an ideal introduction to climbing outdoors. On the Rock Skills Introduction course climbing time is maximised, fundamental skills and techniques are covered. You will be taught how to tie into the rope and how to move efficiently and safely on rock. Enjoying your time climbing is emphasised. Every effort is made to encourage and equip the participant with the skills and enthusiasm necessary to progress to the next stage of climbing.

Rock Skills Introduction Meeting Time & Location
Killiney Hill Car Park at 9.30am. Finish at 5.00pm Google Map Link
I’ll meet you in the car park.There is a footpath leading to the quarry on your left as you drive into the car park. I’ll be close to there.
There are no toilets in the car park but there are toilets at the Mister Magpie Coffee Shop, (Coffee and Sandwiches there too) about 500m or 8-10 minutes walk. Those toilets usually open at 9.00am and close about 5.00pm .
Lunch time will be short and we will fit it in about 1.00pm. We will have time for snacks as we progress throughout the day.
Health & Fitness
If you have any health or injuries issues that you feel may impact your course then please let me know. The day will involve climbing and managing ourselves in the outdoors.

Weather
I will be watching the weather. It’s Ireland. Dalkey seems to have its own micro climate.
Lots of what we will be doing will be possible if it’s wet…but not too wet. We do want to have a nice time to!

Equipment & What To Bring
Please bring with you warm jackets, gloves, waterproofs, packed lunch, something to drink. Sun block, sun hat, shorts t-shirts, … It’s Ireland, be prepared
We will keep going till about 5.00pm
Spare clothes and footwear for your car is also a good idea.
Hand wipes are also a good idea, I will have some available.
Please bring any climbing gear you have so we can have a look at it.
I’ll have all the gear required including harness and helmet. I’ll give you as much opportunity to climb and learn as much as possible.

What shoe size are you? I have some climbing shoes available, but please bring some soft grippy sports shoe that might be comfortable to wear all day and also climb in.
