Mountain Navigation and Climbing In Ireland

Map Reading Course & Climbing Course.

Have a great experience, learn new skills and have lots of laughs doing it. Take a Mountain Navigation course or a Climbing course. Learn to navigate and climb outdoors. Gain the experience to enjoy the outdoors in a safe and enjoyable way. I offer Rock Skills climbing courses and Mountain Skills navigation courses in Ireland. My map reading course teaches you to navigate in the Irish Mountains using a map and compass. Or attend one of my Rock Skills or Climbing Skills courses and learn some of the fundamental skills of  climbing. 

I provide courses that can be adapted to suit individuals, families, groups and clubs.

My Climbing courses can run indoors or outdoors depending on your requirements. Rock Skills courses run outdoors and progress in a structured progressive program from being a novice to become a confident knowledgeable climber. My Climbing Skills courses are more flexible and can be designed to suit your needs.

My Mountain Navigation courses run outdoors only, no indoors power points just practical skills. Whatever the weather we have  a great time with lots of great laughs and new skills learned.

This course is MIDWEEK-Wednesday-Thursday. The location is an easy drive from Dublin or any of the surrounding counties. It’s an ideal introduction to hiking in Wicklow. The course is about learning to navigate, not hiking long distances! A map and compass is supplied. I emphasise using a simple process that will build your confidence and allow you to enjoy your days in the hills. We will do two simple routes over two days and concentrate on observation and relating the map to the landscape and relating the landscape to the map.

Rock Skills Introduction, is an ideal introduction to climbing outdoors or for those who have never climbed or climbed outdoors before and would like to give it a go. All Equipment supplied Climbing time is maximised, 8 hours contact time. Fundamental skills and techniques are covered such as how to tie into the rope and how to move efficiently and safely on rock. Enjoying your time climbing is emphasised. Every effort is made to encourage and equip the participant with the skills and enthusiasm necessary to progress to the next stage of climbing. (13) Rock Skills Intermediate, Dalkey, 05-06 April 2026. Easter

Easter Sunday-Monday, 05-06 April. This course takes two days and builds on the climbers existing skills. You will learn rope work, anchors, top and bottom rope systems and safe belaying. I teach every subject in a structured and progressive and relaxed way. So by the end of the course the student should expect to have covered all the skills necessary to set up and use a top and bottom rope, belay safely and also have had the opportunity to acquire the skills to become a competent second to a lead climber.
